Points are closing sooner than you thought, so wouldn't that be advanced (spark is happening before the mark comes up)?

I strongly suggest using a strobe light. I don't know how many times I had set mine and checked later with a strobe and found them to be off. And double
check the full advance with the strobe, to make sure that your not over advancing.
