Anyone ever run a Turbo? What are the pro's and con's? I know there has to be modifications to lower the compression to run one...? Saw one awhile back
for $750. and have toying with the idea ever since. Anyway, your thoughts are appreciated.

Turbo's are fun but not for everyone for everyday. Kinda like a chopper. You gotta enjoy em to put up with the drawbacks.
JLeather. Why custom pistons? Why not use flattops or stock and a big 77-78 chamber? or a thicker base gasket? Extra 40thou on the base drops my bike from 11 to 1 down to 9.5 to one. I know dish ppistons are better and all but hey it works.

El Wayno, the reason isn't for CR drop, it's to get forged pistons. I'm worried that the cast stock pistons will crack from the heat. It's
already gonna be running extra hot, and with that extra horsepower I would really rather have forged slugs.
Didn't want to put anyone off of trying it, Jollster, just putting out what I've found so far. It takes lots of planning and effort (money) to get a turbo bike that's reliable (just ask Shoe). |

Jleather have you looked into coatings? the new coatings you can bake in and oven yourslef. NOt your oven a oven. they can be a little nasty you know. So you
bead blast teh chamber and top of piston and put on the heat rejecting coating and it keeps your temps down by not letting it soak out the chamber and piston.
Ya forging are a little better and a little stronger. For heat mostly cuz they usually have thicker tops. As far as strength you should find out what stockers
will take, you might be surpries. Plus a little prep goes a long way. One other thing you can do is run water injection. Helps a lot. I am running 7psi on pump
witha compressor efficiency of about 68-70 so on a 70 degree day My intake air temp is gonna be about 195 without the water running. You can get up to around
300 or 320 but you gonna get in trouble up there. I got a spreadsheet you might be interested in. You put in motor size, air temp. pressure. turbo psi,
efficiency, volumetric effieciency of cylinder head and some other stuff and it kicks out projected Hp and intake temp. email if you are interested in it.

Oh ya and you gotta run big ring gaps. Like .008" per inch of diameter on piston. Not the .004-5" like normal.

Actually, EW, I am still considering all of the above. Kinda depends on what my budget'll stand. I am interested in these coatings you talk about, and that
spreadsheet too (do you have some of the VE numbers for the CB750?). I'd like to turbo the 'matic motor I've got, but I'm concerned about oil
pan capacity. I think I'll need to have a deeper-capacity pan machined and a longer pickup. I'm also not sure if the 'matic oil pump can feed a
motor and a turbo and a transmission at the same time.
P.S. anyone know where I could get a 'matic oil pump blueprinted and rebuilt? |

Ok I have the spreadsheet in my stuff from my old job let me upload it. In a day or two. I just fudge teh VE numbers. I put in all the stock stuff and then
move the VE till it says 50ish Hp. I think it is only like 70% or so if I am recalling correctly.
