Need some advice... Being new to both 750's and homebuilt choppers, a couple of us would like to ride down to NC and be able to take in both the WHCM
and the Smokeout. Haven't been to either one before. Since they're the same weekend, anyone who has done it before, how did you work out your timing?
Looks like they are about 60-70 miles apart... did you get a hotel in the middle somewhere or what? I need to start looking for a place for us to stay.

A hotel in the middle? Just camp at the Roost man. Last year (my first year going) I rode over to the smokeout saturday morning and rode back to Roy's for
the WHCM dinner and festivities. You could go back to the smokeout on Sunday if ya wanted to.

The Smokeout is a sponsered market place of vast vendors trying to rip the very last dollar outta your wallet w/cool
shit surrounding them.....
The Roost is a place to relax and party and camp wake up and do it again...surrounded by twisties and beautiful scenery....Roy wants your $ too but he doesn't want all of it....

Me too, Toe Cutter.
Thats what we've done in the past. Most stay at the Roost then those who want to ride into the SmokeOut, do. Those that don't hang around the Roost, lay in the stream and sip beer, go for rides along the Blue Ridge Parkway...you get the idea. And I think the SmokeOut is closer to the Roost in its new location, than in previous years...definately within a comfortable distance nonetheless. Anyway Steve, I had all the same concerns in 2003...my first year...and then some. But I just showed up and everything worked out perfect and I had one of the best times of my life. |

here's my 2cents worth........
The first few years, the Smokeout was freakin AWESOME......KILLER bikes, EVERYTHING custom, or modified, or chopped........the last two years, I couldn't believe I wasted $60.00 to get in to the joint only to see abunch of damn baggers, AND to stand in the sun for 3 hours drinkin overpriced beer. I'll never go back. The Roost is where it's at.....good friends, good food, good times. If you plan to attend the SO, plan to be back at the roost Saturday night for the MIdnight auction! |

I also wanna do some riding along the parkway. Hope to do that Friday. Maybe we can get a S.O. group together for those few hours on Saturday. Nonetheless we'll go,

I also need to organize a ride on Wednesday June 18 to Greensboro/High Point Piedmont Triad Intl airport. We need to pick up a special guest that is flying in for the event.
